WLAV RADIO RAFT RACE
The raft race was on the Grand River at Riverside Park starting in 1969 going to 1981. There was around 1000 rafts each year. I feel the highlight of all the races was when rocker Bob Seger played at the race.

A jury has awarded $1.2 million to a man who admitted he had been drinking alcohol, smoked marijuana and took a diet pill on the day of the race when he suffered a paralyzing fall during a raft race.

He said that backers of the 1981 WLAV-Stroh Lite Raft Race created an atmosphere that was created rowdy behavior. He became a quadriplegic while jumping from a raft.
